Luciano Botelho
Tenor
Last summer the New York Times praised his representation of Riccardo MARIA DI ROHAN at Caramoor Festival in New York, saying: "Luciano Botelho, a Brazilian tenor in his American debut, offered a passionate, expressively sung interpretation of Riccardo".
Between other engagements in 2010, he appeared at English National Opera as Nemorino L'ELISIR D'AMORE and at the Grand Théâtre de Genève performing Giacomo V LA DONNA DEL LAGO for the first time.
Living in London since he undertook his Master's Degree and Diploma at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he made his European debut in 2007 in the title role of LE COMTE ORY at Angers Nantes Opera in France.
After this he sang Giannetto LA GAZZA LADRA at L'Opéra de Massy, Tonio LA FILLE DU REGIMENT at Opera Holland Park in London, Gennaro LUCREZIA BORGIA at Polish National Opera in Warsaw, Leicester MARIA STUARDA at Nationaltheater Mannheim, Ferrando COSI FAN TUTTE at Verbier Festival, Ramiro LA CENERENTOLA in Nancy and Malmö, and Nemorino L'ELISIR D'AMORE in Dijon.
He made his debut as Percy ANNA BOLENA with English Touring Opera in 2008 where he received enthusiastic reviews from The Times of London.
In 2009 his Orphée in Gluck's ORPHEE ET EURIDICE at Stuttgart Staatsoper showed the perfect match between singing and acting: "The young Brazilian tenor Luciano Botelho, acts and sings it with deadly mourning distress, slightly neurotic anti-hero, vividly, touching and emotionally" (Neue Musikzeitung).
Luciano Botelho keep singing in the main theatres of his native country Brazil, where he made his debut in 2001 at the Festival Amazonas de Opera in 2001 as Tamino DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE. In 2003 he was acclaimed by Brazilian critics as "one of the best talents of this country" after his performance of Fadinard IL CAPPELLO DI PAGLIA DI FIRENZE in São Paulo Opera Theatre.
Future plans include Elvino LA SONNAMBULA at Stuttgart Staatsoper, Giacomo V LA DONNA DEL LAGO at Theater an der Wien and Il Conte Almaviva IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA at the New National Theater, Tokyo.
